Today, Northumberland Pride announce their commitment to deliver a physical Northumberland Pride Festival in 2021.
In a recent survey conducted by Northumberland Pride, an overwhelming majority of people were worried that our pride in 2021 would not go ahead.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Plus (LGBT+) people have suffered greatly as a result of Covid-19. The devastating impact of the pandemic has led to Northumberland Pride accelerating its commitment to service delivery for the LGBT+ community in areas that matter to them and focuses in on mental health, wellbeing and domestic violence and abuse support.
Darren Irvine-Duffy, Chair of Northumberland Pride said
“We’re really proud to make this commitment today.
A physical Northumberland Pride Festival in 2021 could look very different and we will be guided by ongoing uncertainties surrounding Covid-19, with an emphasis on the safety of our staff, suppliers, volunteers and community as priority.
We know that visibility is key to the progress of our rights.
A lack of visibility has seen a concerning level of transphobic and homophobic rhetoric and a worrying landscape where we see a denial of rights for parts of our community.
Pride is a cornerstone of our rights and at Northumberland Pride we’re committing to bringing that visibility to Northumberland and beyond in 2021”
Northumberland Pride won’t take place as usual in May/June 2021, and is instead planned for the end of Summer 2021.
